“Chichagof Mines: Fact, Fiction & Future” featuring Curt Freeman presentation, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Apr. 9, 2020. Event at Centennial Hall.

Curt Freeman, Economic Geologist presentation on Chichagof Mines. Curt’s presentation will cover the technical and social characteristics that have combined to make the Chichagof area one of the most important mining centers in Alaska’s history. Hear about the Chichagof area’s fascinating gold deposits, its larger than life miners, townsfolk and rogues who played on Chichagof’s stage. Learn the mining district’s surprising role as a 21st century geologic model for some of the world’s largest gold ore bodies.

The event is free to the public and all are welcome. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served. 

 

 

4th Annual Sitka History Museum Alaska Day Brew Fest, 2:30-6:00 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, 2019 following AK Day Parade.  Event at Centennial Hall front parking lot!

Join us for award winning craft beer tasting from over 20 breweries, a BBQ brisket cookoff, live music by Smokestack and Seattle featuring the Jen Reid Trio and Emily McVicker Band. Food vendors, including brats, corn dogs, seafood, children’s games and more!

 

 

Sitka Historical Society & Museum 2019 Annual Meeting featuring Matt Hunter presentation, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019

All Sitka Historical Society & Museum members, as well as, the Public are encouraged to attend our 2019 Annual Meeting held 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the large auditorium in Centennial Hall. Here’s the evening’s schedule: 6:00-6:30 p.m. SHS Business Meeting; 6:30-7:00 p.m. hors d’oeuvres; 7:00-8:00 p.m. Matt Hunter presentation “Exploring Silver Bay: Riches, Rescues and Mining”

Also, we have a special surprise! The Sitka Historical Society & Museum will unveil our new logo at the Annual Meeting! Plus, come early and tour the recently updated Reis Research Room, in which we have secured brand new computers from a generous Rasmuson Foundation grant which provide SHS members and the Public with access (under the supervision of staff:) to our collections, which includes thousands of historic photos, archives and collections.

 

 

Brew Cruise, 1:30 -4:00 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019 Departs Crescent Harbor Dock.  Tickets $50 each include whale watching/marine life cruise, live music, food, beer and wine.  Cruise Sitka Sound with Allen Marine Tours and listen the bagpipes echo off Silver Bay’s majestic fjords as the two boats tie together for a highlight of the cruise.  Tickets are on sale now at the Sitka History Museum, from SHS board members and soon at Old Harbor Books.
